Best Things To Do in Vis
The two largest settlements are Komiza and the town of Vis. Here are some of the notable attractions to put on your itinerary:
- Komiza – a picturesque town located at the foot of the 600-meter-high Hum Mountain. Full of charming streets and stone houses, the village makes a great photography spot. It is surrounded by numerous beaches and spectacular views from Mt. Hum. Moreover, the town is full of colorful boats, historical buildings such as Monastery of St Nicholas, and popular beaches such as Kamenica, Gusarica, Velo Zalo, etc. It is a great place to experience local vibes and authentic ways of Dalmatian life.
- Vis Town – a beautiful city full of historical and cultural monuments. Here you will find old town’s streets, antique theatre, thermae, fortresses, the necropolis of Issa and Perast tower. Archeological Museum is unavoidable due to its rich collection of historical artifacts of these areas. Moreover, the town of Vis is full of famous houses such as the one that belonged to Croatian poet Hanibal Lucic or country house from the 16th century that belonged to the famous Gariboldi family. The most popular beach is Stiniva beach.
- Vela Glava – the barracks in the center of the island are former military bases that will enchant every history lover.
- Talez & Vela Gomila – an old settlement surrounded by amazing nature that offers panoramic views over the islands, all the way to Italy. It also has reconstructed old houses which are charming options for the accommodation. On the other hand, Vela Gomiza is the oldest lighthouse on the Adriatic, so why not make a short trip from Vis town?

Best Beaches in Vis
Last but not least, the beaches of the Vis island are simply amazing. Intact nature, fantastic diving and paragliding locations, a rich underwater world full of corals, sea creatures, caves, and rocks, are the reasons why you’ll fall in love with Vis. The most popular sandy beach is Vela Smokova beach, ideal for swimming and diving. Around 100 meters from the beach, you will come across the remains of WWII. In other words, an airplane wing can be seen, which makes the underwater world even more enigmatic.
