When it comes to travel, we often have limited time on our hands. That’s why finding ways to make every minute count becomes so crucial. Finding where to eat, what to see, what to do, how to get around, and more, all add up to make or break your trip.

With that in mind, here are some top tips for more efficient travel!

Stay close to your favorite attractions.

Staying close to your favorite or bucket-list attractions is one of the easiest ways to ensure more efficient travel. This is because it can save you a lot of time traveling from A to B, while also reducing the need to find parking or rely on public transport.

For example, if your main reason for visiting Detroit is to watch the Detroit Tigers, you should find accommodations near Comerica Park. If you’re traveling to a large city like New York or Paris, make a list of your top things to see and do, and find accommodations near those.

This way, you’re within walking distance of where you need to be for the majority of your stay. You can then drive or take public transportation to other sites if you have time left over.

Pay extra for better flights.

While you may be trying to keep your trip as budget-friendly as possible, paying a little extra for better flight timings often means you have more time to enjoy yourself on vacation. You should always try to fly out in the morning and back in the evening to avoid losing entire days to travel (or plan extra days just for travel if it’s a long trip).

It may also be worth it to pay extra for a nonstop flight rather than a really long layover. Use sites such as Skyscanner and Daily Drop Pro to make sure you are getting the best possible deal.

Set your budget in advance.

Whether you’re planning on staying in boutique hotels, hostels, or campsites, setting yourself a clear budget ahead of time is crucial for more efficient travel. This will allow you to spend your money wisely, while also giving you the chance to save up if your budget doesn’t align with your travel goals. It also makes it easier to find ways for “bonus” activities or splurges, like a nicer dinner or luxury experience.

Remember, you need to cover more than the cost of your accommodation and travel. You will also need to pay for attraction entry tickets, food and drink, and holiday/travel insurance. Try to account for as much as possible in advance so you aren’t surprised by things, or run through your budget before the trip is over.

Consider hiring a travel agent.

If you love travel but hate the planning process, or feel as though your plans are always poorly executed, then you may benefit from working with a travel agent. They can carry out the majority of the work on your behalf. You simply need to share your vision with them and let them do the rest!

While this does come at an extra expense, they are also often able to access exclusive discounts on behalf of their clients, due to their ongoing relationships with travel providers.

And if that’s not in your budget or you prefer to book things on your own, direct with the provider, try a travel consultation instead. It’s the happy medium between DIYing everything and hiring a travel agent. You can book a consultation with me here!

Have an itinerary in mind.

Having some kind of itinerary in mind is also useful when it comes to making the most of your time. This way, you won’t waste any time coming up with plans on the day itself; you’ll already know what you’re doing and when. You’ll need to do this anyway in order to map out your budget!

This is also a great way to bypass last-minute price hikes and to ensure you’re able to secure tickets for popular attractions. Some activities sell out months in advance. You don’t want to find out when you arrive at your dream destination that you can’t actually do any of the things you went there to do!

What are your top tips for more efficient travel? Let me know!

When it comes to our vacations, we often don’t find the need to be all that efficient. After all, it is more of a workplace habit than something you want to think about when lounging by the pool.

However, being efficient during the planning process will allow you to make the most of every precious minute of your vacation time! Even if all you plan to do is lounge by the pool or the beach, it’s nice to know what your options are should you change your mind.
