Italy On the Brain

This week, everyone must have Italy on the brain.  I’ve received so many questions about la dolce vita, and so I thought I’d introduce you to my favorite Italian cocktailbest Italian train app , as well as a new travel tip I just learned.  Make sure to scroll to the end to catch this weeks YouTube Video Lamanai Ruins & Boat Ride.

Please share this email with friends and family who love to travel.  Ask them to Join the Travel Tribe.  I love sharing these weekly tips, and I’d be so grateful if you’d spread the word!

The Aperol Spritz

Abundant Travel Tips, Aperol Spritz

The Aperol liqueur was created in 1919 by the Barbieri brothers.  It was created after Campari, and is used similarly, but is easier than Campari on the palate.  Aperol is meant to be an aperitif, not an after dinner drink.  Think 5pm, roof top terrace overlooking the Mediterranean and watching the sun set.  Ok, I digress 🙂  It is a refreshing, low alcohol liqueur made with gentian, rhubarb and cinchona among other ingredients, and has an orange sweetness and bitter undertones.  The spritz came to be in the 1950’s, and is my favorite summer sipper.  The official Aperol Spritz recipe is as follows:  3 parts Prosecco, 2 parts Aperol, 1 part Soda and a slice of orange, served in a large wine glass 3/4 full of ice.  Saluti!

Best Train App - TrenItalia

Abundant Travel Tips, TrenItalia App, Italy Travel

I’m continually asked the best way to get around Italy.  Should I take a bus?  Should I take the train?  Do I need to rent a car?  Well, that depends on where you’re going and how long you’re staying.  I should write an entire blog on transportation tips in Italy.  However, I normally suggest the train is the best way to get around the country.  It’s easy, safe, stress free (after you board), and you can watch all of Italy go by as you sip on an espresso.  My favorite train service app in Italy is Trenitalia.  I’ve linked the website here, but I always use the app on my iphone.  All you have to do is log in, and buy your ticket right on the app.  You can buy 1st or 2nd class (either is usually fine), and you can buy up several tickets at one time.  It’s fast, simple and easy, and I love it!  Download it, and watch all your transportation woes drift away. Buon Viaggio!

NEW Travel Tip: Bigger Hotel Room for free!

I read so many travel articles and watch tons of YouTube videos, searching for interesting tidbits to share with you all each week.  Well, this week, I found a new hack; I read this great article about how to get a bigger hotel room for free without an upgrade.  Are you ready for it?  Are you sitting down?  Here goes….Ask for a corner room.  Yes, it’s that simple.  Most hotels work like office spaces, larger spaces are on the corners of the building.  It’s so logical, but it’s never crossed my mind.   I cannot wait to try this new trick on my next trip, and let me know if YOU have success with this travel hack   Read the full corner room article here.

This week’s YouTube video

This week, I’m recapping my incredible stay at Lamanai Outpost Lodge in Belize.  This is one of the most remote jungle lodges, and is well worth the stay.    Make sure to subscribe to the channel.  I need all the love I can get 🙂
