Lake Toxaway & Highlands, NC
Cheers from the Atlanta airport. I’m on my way home from a great weekend near Highlands, NC. I spent this past weekend at Riverbend RV Park near Lake Toxaway, NC, with 2 of my travel girlfriends. We received the VIP treatment at the RV park from the owner and staff, and we loved sitting by the fire at night watching the stars. The weather was perfect, from 35-65 degrees, and the fall foliage was so beautiful….It was the perfect time to go to NC.
My only mishap was a spider bite on my elbow while I was asleep one night. My poor elbow has been red and swollen for 3 days, but at least it is healing, and it’s really starting to itch….which I’m told is a good sign.
RVing was a blast, but I have to say that it was a lot of work for a 3 day trip. If I was traveling for months across the US, I might RV again, but for a long weekend, I think I’ll find a great little hotel or Airbnb next time.
Highlands, NC
Highlands, NC, is a charming town about 30 minutes away from Lake Toxaway. If you are headed to the North Carolina mountains for hiking, great food and fun shopping, I definitely recommend staying in Highlands and using this town as your hub. Some of our Highlands highlights included lunch at Midpoint Restaurant where we celebrated a major birthday, and a business success. And after lunch, what else would 3 girls do? Shop, of course….and shop we did! Some of our favorite stores included Potpourri and Spoiled Rotten.
Other highlights include the gorgeous hiking near Highlands; it doesn’t matter whether you’re looking for waterfalls or beautiful vistas, the nearby hikes are spectacular! Check out this link for the best hikes in the area.
Finally, if you are looking for some great places to stay, check out The Park on Main, or the fun Motel 200 Main.

New Video - Dupont State Forest
Check out this week’s video about my hike at Dupont State Park 1hr from Asheville, NC, and 1hr from Highlands, NC. It was a fun day and a great 5 mile hike to 3 different waterfalls. What are your favorite hikes in North Carolina? I’d love to hear from you!
